The fan switch or the engine cooling fan switch is the switch that activates the various parts of the cooling system according to the temperature of the engine. In general, a sensor is an equipment that detects that a value that is expected to change, such as temperature, motion, level or pressure, has changed and starts a process accordingly, and ends the process when the situation returns to the beginning.

For example, the fan sender activates the radiator fan, allowing the air to pass through the radiator and cooling the engine, it turns off when the engine cools down.

The main component of the engine coolant fan switch is the bimetal disc. Bimetal material is obtained by melting and fusing two different metals together. This disc consists of two metals with different coefficients of thermal expansion and is calibrated to separate at a certain temperature. This deformation causes displacement of the pin that closes the silver contacts. This pin creates the on/off state.

The fan activates when the temperature of the coolant in the radiator exceeds the set limit. This usually occurs when the vehicle is operating in heavy traffic. If the fan switch does not work, the temperature of the coolant in the radiator becomes too high and it boils.

This will cause the engine to overheat, burn out and deform the cylinder head gasket, damage the hoses and leak coolant. In this respect, the quality of the fan sender is very important.
